Edge Brownie Pan
For corner brownie fans and chewy edge lovers, it's a dream come true -- a gourmet brownie pan that adds two chewy edges to every serving! It's the Edge Brownie Pan from Baker's Edge, and it's the first (and only) brownie pan specifically designed for chewy edge lovers. The pan's patented sidewalls also improve baking performance by circulating heat evenly to the pan's middle, where food typically takes longer to bake. The size is just right -- 9" x 12" x 2", so it's a perfect fit for box mixes and most recipes for 9" x 9" and 9" x 13" conventional pans. The hefty cast aluminum construction adds durability and the unique recessed handles make the pan easy to grab when it's turned upside down. The pan also has a quality nonstick coating and smooth, round corners for quick and easy clean-up. Widely acclaimed for its innovation and quality since its launch in 2006, the Edge Brownie Pan has quickly become one of the most talked-about new products in bakeware. The pan has received rave reviews by more than 200 magazines, newspapers, and blogs. Units are individually boxed and come complete with a gourmet recipes insert and a custom nylon spatula.
Toast a logo
If you are tired with the ordinary type toaster that just toasts the bread with hint of anything special, then you could be looking for something like the Pop Art Toaster. Instead of just serving up a boring piece of over done toast, this toaster allows you to personalize each slice to suit your mood or the occasion that might be on a certain day, like birthdays or anniversaries.
Pop Art is a style of painting and printing which goes back to the sixties/seventies, however the toaster does not really produce a piece of art, but the pop part I suppose is where the toast pops up and the art is, well you get my drift here, it is all in the name.
The toaster itself is conventional apart from the fact that you are able to burn a pattern onto the toast, there are six designs so there is always a choice etc, this toaster puts the fun into breakfast this is especially when there are kids waiting for breakfast and you want encourage them to eat something healthy, with its simple operation and the plates are removable which means the pattern can be changed as you wish, makes this toaster an exciting addition to the kitchen.
The toaster features: 6 design plates, which create these patterns on your toast: double hearts, LUV U, flower, snowflake, cake and smiley face, 12 toasting levels, reheat and frozen, slide-out crumb tray, size 7-1/2Hx6-3/4Wx11L and comes in red, black, white, and blue.
The Pop Art toaster is priced at around $35
Talking Message Magnet
This is a cool fridge magnet, the Discovery Message Magnet Set, it functions as both a fridge magnet (not that a fridge magnet has any particular useful function) and you use it to record messages for different members of the family.
The message magnet has 6 buttons which are used to play/record 10 second messages to other people in the household. Each button is also a picture frame so you can personalise it accordingly. So next time you go to the pub you can leave a message for the kids “Do your homework!”, message for the mother-in-law “Do the ironing/flat hunting!” and a message for the partner “I’ll be back after last orders”.
The Discovery Channel is selling the message magnet for $19.95, thanks RGS for the tip.
The Chalk Mug
If you’re sick of leaving those messages written in post-its on the door of the fridge, now you have another and cooler (or hotter) option. As we all know, a lot of people simply won’t get up in the morning without taking their fix of coffee, and the perfect way to leave a message for one of those persons is using the “Chalk Mug”. With this mug you can leave your messages directly in the blackboard styled coffee mug.
This mug is perfect to leave your important thoughts written on chalk, so when the other person comes to drink their tea or coffee they’re not going to miss it. The Chalk Mug already comes with a white chalk, so you can start writing (and erasing) your important notes right away. I think this is one of the most original ways of leaving your written messages for your boss, wife or kids. Not to mention the fact that it looks cool and is certainly going to attract a lot of attention when it’s on your desk or coffee table.
You can buy the Chalk Mug for US$ 9 at I Want One of Those.
Corn Removal Tool
It removes the corn and it also catches it.
The OXO Corn Stripper looks a bit like a mouse. To use, you simply drag it down the cob and it will strip the corn into an internal container. It may not be mind blowingly technical but it does the job.
You can get the OXO corn stripper from Sur La Table for $12, found via BoJ and The New York Times.
Wall-Mounted Digital Scale And Clock
This is a brill idea and, yet again, so simple! The usual type of kitchen scales are generally quite bulky and take up a fair amount of space on the worktop, so by being able to hang it up when you’ve done, thereby freeing up valuable work area, is great.
Not only that, but when not in use, it doubles up as a clock/room temperature display. Just pop the scale back over the clock and lock in place (I do like multi-function things).
The scale can weigh items up to 7lbs and transmits the information via infrared signal to the wall-mounted display (in metric and, for us oldies, also in imperial measurements!)
The scale is controlled by touchscreen so should be pretty easy to use even when up to the elbows in pastry mix.
The only other thing I’d mention is that it appears to need quite a few batteries (7 x AAA batteries!) However, it does come “batteries included” when you order.
Available from Hammacher Schlemmer at $89.95.
Salt and Pepper Mills with Built-in Light
Praise be to the gadget gods, finally man has invented the much needed image lighted mill for pepper and salt. So we will now be able to cook in the dark without the fear of putting too much salt or pepper in our food. Thank you!
The image lighted mill is available from Sharper Image for $29.95, you know you need one.
Kenwood Response Kettle - Changes Color as it Boils
Firstly you can visually see at what stage of the boiling process the kettle is at, the light inside the kettle changes from blue to red as the water heats. It also has an 80 degrees mode, so instead of boiling the water it heats it to a suitable temperature for other hot drinks, this would work well for me as I always have my coffee black so end up boiling the kettle and adding cold water to my black coffee, not the most green of things to do.
You can see the full press release on the Kenwood site, found via Chip Chick.
The Tovolo Standz tools

The Tovolo Standz tools are the latest cool line of kitchen gadgets to hit the market. From Amazon.com:
The creative folks at Tovolo have come up with the latest way to make food prep fun-kitchen utensils that stand upright. Each Standz tool features an ergonomic, soft-grip handle with a flat base measuring 1-1/2 inches in diameter, allowing it to stay upright on the countertop for several reasons: to eliminate germ transference between counter and tool, to keep drips and food particles off the counter, and to provide for quick grabbing. A cheerful complement to the handsome graphite-gray handle, the head of each tool is made of translucent polycarbonate in a bright color range, making the tool easy to find should it end up in a cluttered drawer.
How much fun would these be lined up all along your countertop? Also, buying a whole set of the twenty-two different gadgets would only set you back around $5-$7 for each piece. Granted some of the twenty-two are duplicates - like the silicone spatula, which comes in green and pink - so you wouldn’t have to shell out for all 22 items. Looks like a perfect stocking stuffer to me!
